1:1 Replacement for Cameras with Sony‘s CCD Sensor ICX618
Our ace U monochrome camera acA640-121gm is the only one in the market to offer a 1:1 replacement of cameras with Sony's ICX618 CCD sensor, offering the same optical format, resolution, speed and pixel size as the popular but discontinued ICX618 sensor from Sony.
Since the discontinuation of Sony's CCD sensors, users have often been faced with the challenge of selecting suitable successor models for their image processing systems. As one of the leading experts in switching from CCD to CMOS, Basler offers a broad portfolio of high-performance CMOS cameras that are ideally suited as replacements for older CCD systems. So far, however, there have only been approximate alternatives for the ICX618 sensor. Basler now introduces the first 1:1 replacement camera in the market with the same properties as the ICX618 sensor.
With our new, patent-pending algorithm, the sensor characteristics of the Sony ICX618 can be reproduced 1:1 without distorting the EMVA values of the camera. Thus, the new ace U acA640-121gm behaves optically exactly like the ace classic acA640-120gm based on the CCD sensor ICX618.The camera benefits from the excellent image quality of the CMOS sensors from Sony's second Pregius generation. Users can therefore retain their optical design or system and thus reduce costs. At the same time, the replacement camera ensures long-term availability. The model is available as a monochrome camera with proven GigE interface, offers VGA resolution and delivers up to 130 frames per second.

As the comparison of figure 1A with figure 1B shows, the acA720-290gm has a larger field of view (FOV) compared to the acA640-120gm. A comparison with figure 1C, however, shows that the acA640-121gm featuring the ICX618 Replacement Sensor offers a true 1:1 replacement: Thanks to the same optical distance and optics, a redesign of the image processing system is not necessary.

At the same optical distance, the resolution and image section of acA640-120gm and acA640-121gm are identical. With the alternative camera acA720-290gm in picture 2A, however, a clear difference can be seen. Compensating for this difference would mean extra time and money for users. Basler's 1:1 replacement camera, on the other hand, allows a smooth transition without any additional technical effort.

The histogram comparison of the brightness values of the sample images also shows clear differences between Figures 3A and 3B: While the histograms of image 3B and 3C are nearly identical, the histogram on image 3A differs significantly from the original with ICX618 sensor. Especially in the white area around tonal value 255, larger image areas are overexposed.



With the acA640-121gm as the successor to cameras with ICX618 sensors, users can rely on a lean solution that delivers nearly identical values and ensures effortless integration compared to alternatives that can only approximate the sensor characteristics of the ICX618, such as cameras with IMX287 sensors from our example shown here.
