AI-based grasping and oriented placement of 'unseen' objects

ItemPickAI is an AI-based software module for pick-and-place applications with unknown objects, without any teaching phase or the need for your own training data.

It currently supports three object categories:

  • Bag: flexible bag-like items with various filling levels (for example shipping bags, pouches, paper bags, sacks)
  • Consumer Goods: typical packaged consumer products (for example packaged food, beverages, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and other household goods)
  • Sheet Metal: flat planar metal parts, for example laser-cut sheet-metal components

For all categories, ItemPickAI segments the objects in the bin and computes grasp points on the top surface of each detected item, typically centered. It is designed for suction grippers (parallel grippers may be possible depending on the application and gripper definition). Setup is straightforward: select the object category and provide the gripper parameters, and you are ready to run.
