How to monitor the housing temperature of Basler ace U and L product line cameras

Document number: AW001380

The image quality of digital cameras depends on both the hardware design and on the components’ quality used in the manufacturing process, but it also depends on the environmental conditions, and especially on the ambient and working temperature.

This application note provides information about how to monitor the temperature development of Basler ace USB3 Vision and ace GigE Vision cameras from the U and L product lines, equipped with a temperature sensor.

The following issues are covered in this application note:

  • How to provide heat dissipation for the camera
  • How temperature monitoring and over temperature detection work (how to read the core board temperature)
  • Getting information about the temperature status via events
  • What kind of temperature statuses do exist
  • Test results for different use cases (ace GigE and ace USB). Use cases are: with/without lens, what kind of camera mounting and additional housing or not
  • Correlation between core board and camera housing temperature
