Ahrensburg, Germany, November 23, 2023 – Basler's launch of the new ace 2 X visSWIR camera series earlier this year caught market attention by expanding the company's imaging capability into the shortwave infrared range while maintaining the classic, compact 29 mm * 29 mm design. This week, Basler is announcing the availability of their unique “Pixel Correction Beyond” feature on all ace 2 X visSWIR models. This feature strengthens the camera portfolio by dynamically correcting pixel defects in SWIR images.
The ace 2 X visSWIR cameras feature Sony SenSWIR 1.3MP IMX990 and 0.3MP IMX991 InGaAs image sensors, with a 400 to 1700 µm range, 5 µm pixel size, and up to 240 fps at full resolution. The camera series offers both GigE and USB 3.0 interfaces, a C-mount lens mount, and an operating temperature range of -10°C - 50°C.
Enhancing SWIR image quality directly in camera
The major limitations of InGaAs sensors are the inevitable pixel defects and higher noise levels. The new, intelligent firmware feature developed and designed by Basler for the ace 2 X visSWIR cameras overcomes these issues by dynamically correcting pixel defects with the help of a patented algorithm—all without affecting the current image content. Basler also developed algorithms to reduce line noise with the help of a Sony sensor feature, leading to improved image quality.
The trend of miniaturization in SWIR cameras
Basler’s ace 2 are popular industrial camera models, designed into many imaging systems due to their sugar cube size. Sony's SenSWIR technology achieves the industry’s smallest pixel size of InGaAs SWIR imagers. The new Basler ace 2 X visSWIR cameras combine both, symbolizing the trend of miniaturization in industrial SWIR cameras.
Reliable inspection images come from a reliable imaging chain
Basler places particular emphasis on coordinating all components in its vision portfolio. Manufacturers and system integrators, especially those who are new to SWIR imaging technology, can benefit from peace of mind in implementing this technology. The Basler SWIR portfolio offers all necessary components from lighting, optical filters, and lenses to interface cards and many other accessories.
“We’re excited to introduce the ace 2 X visSWIR camera portfolio and expand our imaging capabilities beyond the visible spectrum,” says Felix Chemnitz, Product Market Manager at Basler AG. “We believe our customers will benefit from new possibilities in many applications, such as wafer inspection, solar panel quality control, material sorting, fill level control, and many more.”
