X-ray fluoroscopic systems optimized by Basler ace camera
What is the application of the X-ray fluoroscopy system about?
Imaging Engineering develops medical fluoroscopic imaging systems. Physicians use fluoroscopy to examine patients with joint problems and digestive or swallowing disorders in real time. Real-time fluoroscopy equipment is highly specialized and expensive. They are often used in medical practices or hospitals, for many years.
What is the challenge with existing X-ray fluoroscopy systems?
Even fluoroscopy equipment that is used over a long period will reliably generate live images. However, older devices are based on outdated technologies. The use of image tube or CCD technology is not uncommon. The critical components of the camera system and imaging computer were discontinued. Imaging Engineering therefore searched for a new camera for the older devices and now uses the Basler ace.
The solution for a more powerful X-ray system with camera
To find a new camera for older fluoroscopic devices, Imaging Engineering evaluated not just dedicated X-ray cameras but also the Basler ace. Since the Basler ace camera is more suitable for fluoroscopic imaging, the company chose the ace U with a CMOS sensor and GigE interface. It generates 42 frames per second at 2.3 MP resolution. Thanks to the camera’s high quantum efficiency and the option of controlling the timing, Imaging Engineering developed unique image capturing modes. They reduce the radiation dose for patients and staff by up to 70 % while still maintaining the image quality required by the radiologists. As a result, the older devices don’t have to be replaced with new and expensive equipment and perform even better than before.
