What characterizes the GMSL interface and which applications benefit?
The GMSL interface was developed for the transmission of large amounts of data, such as image and video data, over long distances. There are numerous application areas for the combined GMSL camera and embedded system in the industrial environment. Complex tasks with multiple cameras and AI connection are particularly beneficial.

The GMSL interface in machine vision systems
GMSL is a high-speed serial interface. It can tunnel various video protocols – including MIPI CSI-2 – and thus significantly increases their range. This makes it attractive for numerous applications. However, as it is a proprietary interface, there is currently no vision standard and the integration of a GMSL vision system poses challenges.

Humanoid robots
An embedded vision system with a GMSL interface enables humanoid robots to transmit high-resolution sensor data with high speed, low latency, and minimal cabling. An integrated NVIDIA Jetson Orin-based host system analyzes the data "on the edge". This enables the robot to perceive its environment precisely and react quickly - a basic requirement for complex, human-like interactions.
