Create Realistic 3D Models with CXP-12 Vision Systems for Motion Capture

Virtual images of motion sequences play a significant role in many areas, including research, sports, fashion, healthcare, and the entertainment industry. They allow comprehensive views of humans and animals to be created for analysis or intense entertainment experiences. To create these virtual models, many spatially and temporally synchronized cameras must precisely record images from different perspectives.

What was the problem?

In all applications, whether time-shifted or in real time, excellent image quality is essential for viewing and analyzing detailed textures. This makes motion sequences appear as close to reality as possible. High resolutions and the use of many cameras generate enormous amounts of data that the vision system must process.

The solution

A vision system with a CoaXPress 2.0 interface is particularly well suited for this task, since it covers all requirements:

  • High scalability of cameras with full utilization of bandwidth and sensor performance

  • Exceptional output image quality due to high sensor resolution—thanks to the latest Sony sensors

  • Exact synchronization of components for real-time processes

  • Long cables with power supply and trigger

This vision system ensures a fully automated process. The resulting digital 3D models appear exceptionally realistic. Basler's comprehensive CXP-12 portfolio offers the appropriate compatible hardware products for creating virtual recordings, including: cameras, interface cards, frame grabbers, lenses, cables, and evaluation kits for accelerated implementation (also with Linux support). Basler’s CXP-12 boost cameras feature 2 channels, the Sony Pregius S global shutter CMOS sensors (IMX530, IMX531 and IMX532), and the necessary high resolution with 16, 20, and 24 MP to serve this application space. Frame rates up to 150 fps make them particularly advantageous for capturing fast-moving subjects. Global shutter technology eliminates motion distortion caused by readout delay, which affects post-processing. The boost cameras demonstrate their full potential when combined with suitable multi-channel CXP-12 interface cards or frame grabbers. The scalability of CXP-12 multi-camera systems allow both time-delayed virtual image results and those in real time (such as live broadcasts) to be realized thanks to precise triggering and synchronization.

Your benefits

  • Perfectly coordinated CXP-12 components from a single source

  • pylon Camera Software Suite as SDK platform for all Basler components, including multi-camera setups with CXP-12 interface cards

  • CXP-12 evaluation kits are also available to make testing, configuring, and integrating the vision system easy

  • Lean, integrated vision system with low implementation and maintenance costs
