I’ve installed the Basler pylon Viewer and a pylon network driver (either the Basler Filter Driver or the Basler Performance Driver), but I do not see my camera in the "view tree" of the pylon Viewer. Why not?

You must configure the IP address of your network adapter and your camera. Generally, there are two approaches to configuring a network adapter: "Fixed IP Address" or "DHCP / Auto IP (LLA) sometimes also referred to as APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing)".

To configure your network adapter, please follow the procedure described in chapter "Installing a GigE Camera" of the current "Install and Setup Guide for Cameras Used with pylon for Windows".

To change your camera’s IP configuration, you can use the pylon IP Configurator. This tool was automatically installed when you installed the pylon Viewer and selected the GigE interface. Detailed information about using the IP Configuration Tool can also be found in the "Installation Guide" mentioned above.

When configuring your camera's IP address, keep the following guidelines in mind:

• For a camera to communicate properly, it must be in the same subnet as the adapter to which it is connected.

• The camera must have an IP address that is unique within the network.

• The recommended range for fixed IP addresses is from to and from to These address ranges have been reserved for private use according to IP standards

Tip: There's a convenient "trick" that is handy during your initial camera design-in process or when working with cameras in your lab. You can set your network adapter to a fixed address in the automatic IP address range ( to with a subnet mask of and you can set your camera(s) for automatic IP address assignment. With these settings, a camera and an adapter can establish a network connection very quickly. This can save you some time if you are frequently connecting and disconnecting cameras or switching the system on and off as you would during design-in.
