Basler GigE scout Cameras Used for Motion Analysis System
InnoSportNL, the Dutch National Center for Innovation in Sports, set up technical laboratories for various sporting disciplines such as swimming, volleyball, ice skating, gymnastics, and others. As part of this initiative it equipped the six gymnastics training halls of the InnoSportLab 's-Hertogenbosch with 20 Basler scout GigE cameras. Multiple cameras are installed at fixed positions to record the athletes on the national gymnastics team during their training sessions. To facilitate slow motion and offline analysis, the sessions are recorded at high frame rates. A more detailed review is dedicated to small details of the athletes' bodies, such as the position of their feet in a floor exercise, for example. Thus, also high image resolution is important.
The two daily training sessions of each athlete are recorded for immediate review. From all these recordings the trainer selects a number of good runs of each athlete. These selected files are automatically converted to the AVI format and uploaded to a special website, so the athletes can review their trainings even at home.
