pylon Product Improvement Program
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does "Product Improvement Program" mean?

At Basler, we are constantly investing in the improvement of our products and services. This is why we have started our Product Improvement Program. We would like to learn more about which functions and camera models our customers are using with pylon. Starting with pylon version 6.1, the pylon Viewer records data about the use of Basler cameras and the system environment of the pylon installation and sends the recorded data to a server for analysis by Basler

Does the transmitted data contain personal information?

The transmitted data does not contain any personal information. Only technical information about the use of the pylon Viewer and general system information is transmitted.

Why does Basler gather this data?

The purpose of the data analysis is to provide information on how often different features of Basler cameras are set and used and from which system environment the cameras are controlled. The results of the analysis will help Basler to plan future enhancements and improvements.

What happens with the data?

Basler analyzes the transmitted data in order to select the most suitable features for low-cost camera models or to identify features and platforms that should be the focus of further development.

What effect does data transmission have on the performance of my systems?

Data transmission has no effect on the performance of your systems. The function takes system usage into account and delays the sending of recorded data if there is user activity in the pylon Viewer at the same time.

What data is transmitted?

The following data is recorded and transmitted by the pylon Viewer:

  • Menu items that were clicked
  • Camera types connected to the system
  • Camera settings that have been made
  • System specifications (e.g. processor, memory, graphics card)

Does my application developed with the pylon API transmit data to Basler?

Data is only gathered and transmitted from the pylon Viewer while using the pylon Viewer. Use of a pylon API is not affected.

Can the transmitted data be traced?

The transmitted data does not contain any information that clearly identifies the system used. Only technical information on the use of the pylon Viewer and general system information is transmitted.

When and how often is data transmitted?

The data is transmitted at intervals of a few minutes. If, at the time of a pending transmission, a function is currently being performed in the pylon Viewer, such as image acquisition, the transmission is delayed until a time when transmission is possible without impairing system performance.

How long is the data retained?

The transmitted data is irrevocably deleted after a maximum of 12 months.

Can I revoke my consent?

You can revoke your consent at any time. In the pylon Viewer, click on Help > Privacy and change your selection.
