Basler's PGI: In-Camera Image Optimization for Color and Monochrome Cameras
Basler's proprietary PGI feature combination offers image optimization for color and monochrome cameras. The algorithm combines noise suppression, image sharpness optimization and 5x5 debayering and color anti-aliasing for color cameras. All features run on the camera's own FPGA and thus save considerable resources on the host system of our customers.
Auto Color/Contrast Function for Perfect Color Reproduction and Razor-Sharp Images
Excellent color reproduction is essential for medical applications. However, finding the right color setting is not always easy. Our auto color function does this work. This way you can get pictures with the best color reproduction from a standing position. Sharp contrasts are also essential for meaningful images. With our auto contrast function, you can immediately create images with ideal contrast settings. The automatic histogram stretch function maximizes image contrast. For individual requirements there is the possibility to adjust the settings for color and contrast manually.
Auto Exposure Function for Changing Lighting Conditions
If the lens or zoom, for example, are changed in an application, the lighting conditions vary and the image quality decreases. The auto exposure function reacts extremely quickly to changing lighting conditions and adjusts the camera in an instant. This is how we ensure the smooth creation of images with the best quality.
Perfect Color – Color Settings Made Easy and Flexible
For the perfect color impression, Medical & Life Sciences applications require individual and precise color settings. Color configuration is often complex and time consuming. The Basler MED Feature Set Perfect Color makes your work easier whenever possible but gives you scope for individual adjustments at the same time. Control the entire color space via hue, saturation, brightness and contrast or change individual colors in the color space with the 6 Axis Operator. Are you working with a standard light source in your application? The MED Feature Set Perfect Color offers color presets optimized for the most common light sources. In addition to tried-and-tested settings from industrial image processing, common light sources such as Olympus Microscope LED (4500 K and 6000 K) or Leica Microscope LED (5500 K) are integrated for microscopy applications. Save time and effort by choosing the color presets for your lighting.
Dust Protection – for Applications with Special Cleanliness Requirements
Applications from Medical & Life Sciences place high demands on the imaging component as well as on cleanliness. For example, high magnifications are common in microscopy, so dust and other particles interfere and disrupt the optical path. Our Basler MED ace cameras leave production free of contamination but foreign objects can enter the optical path during transport and daily handling. We have designed our models with the MED Feature Set Dust Protection so that the optical path is free of dust and other particles at all times.
Sensor Room Sealing to Protect the Optical Path
Basler MED ace cameras with the MED Feature Set Dust Protection have an optimized hardware design. The IR cut filter is firmly embedded in these models. We also minimize the sensor room with a sealing between the IR cut filter and the sensor. This reduces the risk of dust and other particles getting into the optical path during transport or daily handling – so what is clean stays clean.
Separate Production in the Cleanroom
In order to meet the special cleanliness requirements in Medical & Life Sciences, we pay strict attention to cleanliness when manufacturing Basler MED ace cameras: The camera is installed in a separate cleanroom and only by specially trained employees. We also regularly check and document the number of particles in the air. If the particle load is too high, the camera is not installed. We instead clean and check the filter system and measure the number of air particles again.
Continuous Inspection for Dust and Other Particles
We manufacture all of our Basler MED ace cameras in a separate cleanroom. We not only keep an eye on the number of particles in the air. For the models with the MED Feature Set Dust Protection, we check various components during assembly and in the final inspection the entire camera for dust and other particles. We examine both the sensor and the IR cut filter and clean the components if necessary. We examine the finished camera in our Camera Test Tool.
High Level of Robustness in Daily Use
Our Basler MED ace cameras are durable and robust. They can be easily installed in various applications and are also suitable if the cameras are to be mounted alternately on different devices such as microscopes. Thanks to the sealed sensor room, dust and other particles do not settle in the optical path that is inaccessible to the customer during handling. And if it should ever be necessary, the filter can be cleaned without contaminating the sensor.
Low Light Imaging – Excellent Images Even in Low Light Conditions
Many typical Medical & Life Sciences applications such as microscopy and laboratory automation require image processing in low light conditions. Various applications from Medical & Life Sciences such as fluorescence microscopy and detection may require exposure times of several seconds. The image quality often suffers. Not so with the Basler MED ace: Models with the MED Feature Set Low Light Imaging offer a mode for optimizing the image quality with long exposure times, with which even weak light signals can be detected with low noise. In the image, this leads to fewer hot pixels and less noise.
Best Contrast Thanks to Integrated Histogram Functions
Weak light signals make it difficult to produce good images in which the recorded objects are sharply defined. With our integrated histogram function, we enable independent contrast adjustment for each color channel and thus control the black point. The result: maximum image information on a deep black background. A further advantage is that this pre-processing runs directly on the camera's FPGA, saving cost-intensive computing resources on the customer's host side.
