Real-Time Trigger on Basler Network Cameras

Document number: AW000991

This application note explains the use of the real-time trigger feature of Basler network cameras.

Normally, Basler network cameras capture image streams continuously where the camera generates all the necessary signals by itself. This means that the user has no influence on when an image is captured. In situations where the user wants to control exactly when an image is captured, the real-time trigger feature is useful.

If the real-time trigger is enabled, the current image stream capture will be aborted. This takes a few milliseconds. After this abort time, an image will be captured immediately.

With the aid of plenty of examples, this application note teaches you what impact the use of the real-time trigger has on the operation of your camera.

In addition, you're going to learn the following:

  • How to enable the real-time trigger
  • How to use the real-time trigger with the alarm feature
  • Minimum gap necessary between two real-time triggers
  • Information on "JPEG (triggered)" encoding
