In automotive inspection processes, headlamps in different shapes need to be plugged in and inspected. This task must be completed manually, because there are several hundreds of different models, which are in complex shapes and placed randomly on the production line.

Basler’s customer Alsontech designs and develops a 3D robot vision positioning systems for precise positioning, and helps their customers achieve substantial savings.

Two Basler ace U area scan cameras were integrated in the customer’s 3D vision system to obtain detailed point cloud data for the headlamps. Then Alsontech’s intelligent algorithm analyzes the data and generates 3Dcoordinates of the headlamps, so that the robot knows where the plugs are.
