Basler is a leading international manufacturer of imaging components for computer vision applications such as cameras, lenses, frame grabbers, software as well as embedded vision solutions, customized products and consulting services. The products are used in a variety of computer vision markets, including factory automation, medical, traffic, logistics, retail, and robotics. Founded in 1988, the Basler Group employs approximately 800 people at its headquarters in Ahrensburg (near Hamburg) and other locations in Europe, Asia and North America.

The Director of Marketing is responsible for managing and leading the Marketing organization for the Americas subsidiary of Basler AG. This includes the functional roles of Product Management, Strategic Marketing, Market Communications and Solutions Consulting. The organization is relatively small at the current time; however, the current approved budget plans for doubling of size of the Marketing organization within the next 24 months.
The position is responsible for planning and directing all aspects of the organization's market analysis, feedback to R&D, Americas promotional activities and other market initiatives. Also includes timely and relevant industry, customer and competitor information to influence corporate direction and investment activities. This position reports to the Managing Director and is a key member of the Americas Executive Team and responsible for developing and implementing the Americas market strategy. 

Your responsibilities

  • Management 
    • Demonstrate entrepreneurial behavior including creative problem solving and generating new ideas to move the organization forward.
    • Regular travel and interaction with Product Managers, Salespersons and other customer facing personnel in order to remain close to the market.
    • Implement an effective Marketing performance management system including appropriate metrics for relevant areas congruent with corporate goals.
    • Clearly communicate high standards and hold personnel accountable to these standards.  Provide timely feedback in a constructive manner.
    • Demonstrate leadership and accountability towards objectives.
    • Maximize revenue growth and market share.
    • Establish and maintain a substantive presence and credibility among colleagues at headquarters in Germany to provide strategic input and market knowledge for the Americas.
  • Strategy 
    • Active member of the Americas Executive management team, which includes working with colleagues across the world with occasional meetings at company headquarters in Germany.
    • Lead the US organization via Strategic Marketing by developing strategies which leverage the Americas unique opportunities including embedded vision, AI, Industry 4.0, etc.
    • Develop market intelligence and analysis sufficient to contribute to key decision making in the strategy, tactics, and execution processes.
    • Drive state of the art Marketing Communication practices to ensure growth in website visitors, lead generation and brand awareness.
    • Uncover growth opportunities including existing and new markets while maintaining an understanding of how these opportunities fit into established strategic direction.
    • Take an active leadership role in significant business issues on behalf of the company and provide input into overall corporate strategy.
  •  Administration
    • Responsible for CRM system (salesforce.com) usage by all team members and the ability to use the information for targeted purposes.
    • Manage accurate product category forecasts and manage expenses in order to meet budget.
  •  Customer
    • Regular customer interaction in order to ensure a strong knowledge about customer requirements, behaviors, buying processes and trends.
    • Trade show participation in order to interact with customers, assess competitors and build relationships with key industry contacts.
  • Other
    • Responsible for establishing an industry presence and relationships with relevant industry personnel.
    • Proven ability to lead a Marketing organization.
    • Energy and enthusiasm to develop and implement creative strategies and demonstrate perseverance to penetrate new markets.
    • Provide the sales force with the tools and training needed to reach/exceed its goals.
    • Candid, regular and effective communication with personnel at Basler’s German headquarters which including face-to-face visits, video conferencing, telephone, and email.
    • Provide input on local issues including trade show participation, product positioning, advertising, communications, and other promotional opportunities.
    • Effectively manage lead generation efforts program.
    • Ability to work with a foreign parent company that provides cultural challenges and time zone difficulties.
    • Willingness to travel to parent headquarters in Germany annually to build relationships, establish congruence on strategy, and share information on market trends and opportunities.

Your qualifications 

  • College degree with 10-15 years of Marketing experience in a technical industry.
  • Proven personnel management track record of developing careers of subordinates.
  • Growth mindset with the ability to envision, develop and implement successful marketing and sales strategies while achieving P&L objectives.
  • Technically literate with a track record of exposure and knowledge of industrial B2B markets.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills along with a strong executive presence. 
  • Must fit the Basler culture which includes treating others fairly, openly and respectfully.
  • Results oriented with a high degree of accountability.  True team player with the ability to drive progress and contribute to the strategic direction of the company.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and to parent company in Germany.  Total overnight travel estimated 20%.
