Basler is a leading international manufacturer of imaging components for computer vision applications such as cameras, lenses, frame grabbers, software as well as embedded vision solutions, customized products and consulting services. The products are used in a variety of computer vision markets, including factory automation, medical, traffic, logistics, retail, and robotics. Founded in 1988, the Basler Group employs approximately 800 people at its headquarters in Ahrensburg (near Hamburg) and other locations in Europe, Asia and North America.

The Product Market Manager is responsible for Strategic Marketing and Product Market Management of cameras and other vision components with focus on Factory Automation, Logistics and Medical markets for the Americas. This primarily includes helping with the launch of new products, identifying target accounts and helping the organization to develop a better understanding of applications and market potentials and requirements. This position is based in Basler’s Exton, PA office and reports to the Basler Inc Director of Marketing.

Your responsibilities

  • Analysis
    • Continuous analysis of assigned markets :
      • be an advocate for Basler Americas market product requirements
      • establish relationships with Basler sales force and management in order to help win business and provide meaningful feedback to R&D on market requirements
      • visit key customers  and prospects and define account winning strategies together with sales
      • visit relevant trade shows and application/vertical market industry events
      • establish contacts to industry associations, market research agencies, etc.
      • develop industry (assigned application/vertical market) understanding
      • collect competitive information and feedback to central competition analyst
      • continuously monitor market and competitive environment
      • analyze lost opportunities due to product related weaknesses and determine needed product changes and/or products to be developed
      • establish relationship/ partnership to partners (e.g. distributors, other)
  • Research
    • Research and prepare proposals for product management on new product (generations) / product features/ product modifications
      • New product (generation): including business plan for assigned market and countries (basic product needs, market analysis, competitive analysis, etc.)
      • Product  features / product modifications:  propose smaller product modifications relevant for assigned applications/vertical market  to product management  (including basic business case)
      • continuous feed-in of relevant information into world-wide and local product management organization
      • continuous monitoring and feedback on pricing positioning and pricing effectiveness and competitiveness 
      • continuous monitoring and feedback on effectiveness of Go-To-Market approach (distributors, partners, own sales force)
      • Maintain a key player (biggest existing and potential customer) list for assigned application/vertical market and feed-in to product market management
  • Launch Phase
    • Support Product Launch Process in Launch Phase
      • Oversee Launch activities in targeted applications/vertical markets
      • Conduct initial sales trainings (as part of train-the-trainer approach)
      • Intensively support sales in customer visits
      • Compile key customer (existing and potential) and define with respective sales on account winning strategy
      • Control the progress of Launch process and initiate counter measures and actions in case of deviation
      • Counterpart for MarCom in Launch phase
  •  Involvement in Training activities
    • Define  training needs in cooperation with Sales management
    • Hold trainings as part of train the trainer concept
    • Feedback on training optimization to training designer or localize training if needed
  • MarCom Support
    • Cooperation with Marcom during product lifecycle
      • Work with Marcom on specifics of targeted applications/vertical markets
      • Support / Counterpart for Marcom related questions
      • Uncover and attend/walk specific tradeshows
      • Work with MarCom to generate leads

Your qualifications 

  • College Degree in technical field preferred
  • Some Product Management experience is mandatory (preferably in a technical B2B field)
  • Experience in industrial cameras, machine vision, industrial automation and optics a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with customers and gather appropriate information
  • Ability to analyze data and discern patterns which are relevant to market trends, customer clusters and product requirements and feed back to Basler AG headquarters
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills along with a strong presence.  Must fit the Basler culture which includes treating others fairly, openly and respectfully
  • Results oriented with a high degree of accountability.  True team player with the ability to drive progress and contribute to the strategic direction of the company
