Do Basler GigE Cameras Support VLAN Tagging as Defined in IEEE 802.1Q?

No, Basler cameras do not support VLAN tagging as defined in IEEE 802.1Q.

IEEE 802.1Q, often referred to as Dot1q, is the networking standard that supports virtual LANs (VLANs) on an IEEE 802.3 Ethernet network.

Some additional points to consider:

  1. If the VLAN tag is added or removed by the respective switch, then the camera won't notice.
  2. In the case that the camera shall add a tag the ace 2 does not provide a control to insert such a VLAN tag. Namely, such a case is not supported.
  3. The case when the camera receives an Ethernet frame with such a VLAN tag, because it was not removed by the switch, is untested. This means that we do not know if the camera will ignore the tag and will process the data or not. But the VLAN tag will definitively not be processed by the camera.

If this is a critical aspect for a project, and provided the associated volume is high enough, it may be worth asking our customisation team.
