The New A503k Extends Basler’s A500 Camera Family
The Basler A500 series is a family of high-speed cameras with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels and variants that capture images at up to 74 or 500 frames per second (fps) at full resolution. All A500 camera models are available in mono and in color. By using the camera’s area of interest (AOI) function, it’s possible to focus on the essential area of an object and to operate at even higher frame rates. This high speed, along with a reliable and easy to use Camera Link interface, makes the A500 family a powerful, flexible tool appropriate for a wide variety of demanding vision applications.

The success of the Basler A500 series will be expanded with the addition of a new family member: the A503k. The A503k has an 8 tap - 8 bit video data output mode, so it is fully compatible with the Camera Link standard and compatible with a wide variety of currently available frame grabbers. A detailed list of compatible frame grabbers can be found at our webpage.

With the 8 tap - 8 bit output mode, a maximum frame rate of 402 fps can be achieved at full resolution. And when the AOI feature is used, even higher rates can be reached. A change in either the vertical or horizontal size of the AOI can result in speeds of up to 500 fps. Speeds beyond 500 fps can be achieved by making changes to the AOI’s vertical size.

The Basler A503k includes two new features that will be beneficial for high speed applications where the camera switches from a mode where sensor readout and exposure do not overlap to a mode where they do overlap. The new shutter line compensation and DSNU constancy features ensure that the behavior of the camera will be more homogenous and linear when the camera switches between the non-overlapped and overlapped modes.
