Basler has closed a gap between the standard cameras in the
A400 series (the A402k/kc, A403k/kc, and A404k/kc) and the high-end A406k/kc cameras. The A406k and A406kc are among the fastest
Camera Link-based four megapixel cameras.
With a resolution of 2320 x 1726 pixels and a 7 µm x 7 µm pixel size, A406 cameras achieve a speed of 209.3 frames per second. Pixel data is transferred via 10 taps at 85 MHz, which is the current maximum clock speed for Camera Link. There are only a few frame grabbers worldwide, however, that are capable of handling this amount of data. Data transfer of more than 800 MB/s from the camera requires a PCIe card with eight lanes, but in most cases, frame grabbers only have four lanes.
To create A405k/kc cameras that will run at the maximum speed available on standard grabbers, Basler reduced the internal frame rate to 167 frames per second at a resolution of 2330 x 1726 pixels. With these specifications, nearly all grabbers are able to run in an 8 tap, 8 bit mode at 85 MHz and can handle the data stream. Grabbing 167 frames per second and processing these frames at the same time is just within the capabilities of a standard system. The A405k/kc can also achieve a rate of 167 frames per second in 8 tap, 10 bit mode, but a high-end frame grabber is required.
Currently the
A400 family includes the following members:
On the A404k/kc, the 48 frames per second max frame rate can be reached when using the 10 bit mode.
Due to triple shading correction functionality that raises CMOS sensor performance to the level of a CCD sensor, all A400 series members provide excellent image quality. Cameras in the A400 family are available in both monochrome and color.
