Basler Line Scan Cameras

Basler's highly sensitive line scan cameras are especially well suited for applications that need both high speeds and high image quality. Our line scan cameras are available in monochrome and color variants and with various resolutions, interfaces and data rates.
A line scan camera reads the image data one line at a time. This means that it doesn't observe the image as a whole, but rather reviews it precisely line by line. This seamless recording style allows for inspections of over-long objects or even endless webs of material. These characteristics make Basler line scan cameras perfect for a variety of applications: The most common uses are quality assurance and sorting procedures.

Areas of Application for Line Scan Cameras

Line scan cameras are frequently used in printing machinery to inspect printed images. Surface and web inspection are also common areas for line scan cameras. Regardless of whether working with semi-conductors, paper, plastics or raw leather, line scan cameras are helpful tools for identifying flaws directly within the production process. This is handled in two different ways: one involves the camera "detecting" a flaw by comparing the endless web against a flawless reference and issuing an alert when irregularities arise. The other uses special software to detect on its own whether the material has flaws.

Another common use is for postal sorting or reading out barcodes, QR codes, lines of text (OCR) and other codes. This ensures that packages and letters will reach the right recipient in a timely manner.

racer, runner or sprint?

The Basler racer line scan camera for example is available with GigE or optional Camera Link interface. The maximum line scan rate using GigE is 51 kHz; Camera Link can achieve 80 kHz. At up to 12k of resolution, the racer delivers exceptional image quality at an outstanding price/performance ratio.

Other line scan cameras in our portfolio, such as runner, sprint and Basler L300, have plenty to offer as well: resolutions of up to 8k or line scan rates of up to 140 kHz are possible. The GigE interface allows for cable lengths of up to 100 meters.

In short: Basler line scan cameras are always the right choice if you need to read in a large amount of data at high speeds and high image quality.
