Making Tunnels Safer - Basler pilot GigE Cameras Reliably Detect Cracks in Tunnels

For safety reasons, tunnels are checked for cracks and other defects on a regular basis. In the past, the checking and recording has been done manually by workers - but this procedure is time-consuming, labor-intensive and subject to a high degree of interpretation.

terra international surveys ltd., located in Zurich, Switzerland, has developed an automated and systematic tunnel inspection approach with complete documentation. The system has proven itself to be very reliable even in large tunnels of up to 25 km in length – it accurately detects, classifies and documents cracks within predefined tolerances.
