Lighting and Image Processing: Big Benefits for Choosing Wisely

Lighting plays a major role in image procession systems, alongside camera, sensor, optics and software. For most applications, the ambient light is not of suitable intensity or composition. Artificial lighting is instead well suited for creating (and recreating) optimal conditions. It represents the first step in the image processing cycle and is a decisive factor in what is visible and what can be detected using software. Investing time and money into optimized lighting cuts both programming and image analysis costs. In many cases, the desired inspection tasks are in fact only possible if the right lighting is used. The lighting directly impacts the quality of the image, and with it the effectiveness of the overall image processing system.

It's not difficult to find the right lighting for your vision system.

Our Vision Campus article on Lighting in Image Processing contains useful information on lighting and tips on how to find the right lighting for your application.
