Basler ace USB 3.0 Camera with Sony IMX174 Sensor Excels in Solar Imaging

To get the best possible performance out of solar telescopes, everything along the optical chain, from the objective lens, through special solar filters to the camera must perform perfectly. One weak link along that chain can make all the difference between mediocre images and great images.

In seeking the perfect camera for his work in Hydrogen Alpha Solar Imaging, Dr. Green, a British amateur astronomer, approached Basler’s UK distributor Multipix Imaging. He chose a Basler ace USB 3.0 camera with Sony’s IMX174 CMOS sensor because it matched the specifics of his application in solar chromospheric imaging as perfectly as he required. The dynamic range and sensitivity of the camera allow surface details and faint prominences to be captured within the same shot. Dr. Green concludes: „This is the best camera I’ve used for solar imaging, including CCD“.

The results are simply stunning! See all the details and a selection of Dr. Green’s spectacular solar images in our Success Story “Basler ace USB 3.0 Camera with Sony IMX174 Sensor Excels in Solar Imaging” in the Download section of our website.
