Basler Introduces High Performance Color Variants of the sprint Line Scan Family Members
Ahrensburg, 26 August 2008 – Basler Vision Technologies is expanding their high sensitivity
sprint line scan family by adding color variants with the resolutions of 2k, 4k and 8k.
The maximum line rate of the new color models is unmatched: it includes 70 kHz for the 2k or 4k resolution variants, and 39kHz for the 8k color model. Such speeds have not been reached before with color line scan cameras. Line rates of the well-established monochrome models are at up to 140 kHz for the 2k and 4k models and up to 70 kHz for the 8k model at full resolution.
The color variants are based on the same next generation CMOS sensor as the monochrome models. The unique sensor concept combines the positive attributes of CCD and CMOS in a dual line sensor and provides outstanding image quality. This sensor was designed to be extremely sensitive and to show very low noise. These attributes are critical in order to reach best results at low light conditions and high line rates which are very common in line scan applications.
Several useful features and a wide variety of available accessories assure excellent inspection results and easy adaptation to the application.
Unique Color Sensor Design
The color images are generated by the unique CMOS dual line sensor with a pixel pitch of 10µm. The first line contains red and green information. The second line contains green and blue information. Due to the fact that the two sensor lines can be controlled separately, the sprint color line scan cameras can be used with different color options. In summary, three different color modes of operation can be used. Depending on the requirements of the application the focus can be either on higher sensitivity, higher color fidelity or on reduced data rate.
To get direct RGB data out of the camera and higher sensitivity the sprint can be switched to an effective pixel pitch of 20µm.
The two adjacent sensor lines have absolutely no gap between each other. Thus, no spatial artifacts will occur which results in a benefit for the image quality, especially when inspecting rotating or moving objects. Furthermore, the integration into the application will be much easier.
Useful features
The cameras in the sprint family will include powerful features such as an AOI (area of interest) with speed increase, shading correction, test images, line stamps, configuration sets, and error condition detection. Error detection prevents damage to the sprint caused by, for example, incorrect voltages or internal temperatures that are too high. Two types of shading correction (PRNU and DSNU correction) will let users correct image variations that may result from optics, lighting or sensor performance. The more homogeneous behavior provided by shading correction is a major advantage for many vision applications.
The sprint color models will be available beginning of October.
