There are many different automatic image evaluation methods. These are applied, often in combination, depending on the application. Image evaluation is based on measurement technology, image processing algorithms, and software and computer technology.

Vision Technology systems are implemented not only in the form of discrete components (illumination, camera, computer etc.) but also in more compact and cost-effective manners, i.e. cameras with integrated processing and illumination.

The advances of semiconductor technology will lead to a decrease in cost and an increase in performance of Vision Technology which in turn will enable many more applications than today are technically and economically are feasible, especially in combination with more advanced image evaluation algorithms.
